What kind of camera?

As most of my blog-followers know, I am not a professional photographer, and don't claim to be one (yet) :) I've spent time in classes (both in-room and online) not to mention hours upon hours upon hours reading, researching and PRACTICING to get where I am now - and have a LOOOOONG way to go.

With that said, I do get the occasional question; "what kind of camera do you use?" I'm happy to explain what knowledge I have at this point (and have done this quite a bit lately), and I also list the gear I currently own in a link at the top of my blog. But I can't stress enough that in order to create beautiful photos, it's not as simple as buying a big fancy camera. Coincidentally, just earlier tonight, I stumbled across a photographer's blog who summed this up perfectly.

*Before reading, please note - I do not place myself in the same category of this photographer, she's a professional with many, many more years of experience than me!! But she explains, very well, that it's not just the camera that makes a photographer. :)

If interested, you can read her post here.

And because I hate to post without a photo - below is my Project 365 photo for today (if you don't know what I'm talking about, click the link at the top to check it out).

I actually want to point out to prospective "clients" that this photo is a good example of how clothing/color choice can have an impact on a photo session. Normally, my eyes are a very dull, grey-blue color. But my teal/blue scarf brought out the blue tone in my eyes (And actually, in my original image, they look even more blue, but for whatever reason, Flickr seems to mess with my photo's colors!).

Just something to consider. :)

Day 12 - Project 365

Wiiiiiiiiiiiii

A fun night with the Wii in our house!

First, Billy and I battled it out in Mario Kart. He always wins.
Can you tell how tense I get --- and how CALM he stays!?

Then Caitlyn joined in to play her Wii Music game.

She's playing the trumpet - can ya tell!? =)

What would we do with out our fun games? =)

Happy Inauguration Day!

Saturday, January 17, 2009

Remember when...

we were little and could spend HOURS playing out in the snow, completely un-affected by the cold biting at your cheeks? Today I bundled up and head out with Caitlyn to play in the fresh snowfall. She was finding ice-chunks and pretending they were 'rare treasures'. Each one had it's own shape that she was able to identify; a kite, a tree, a volcano. Her imagination is amazing. She could have stayed out there all day and never gotten bored (or cold).

Here she is eating one of her "rare treasures" :)

Also, while outside - I set up the camera to take a few photos for my new project I started yesterday: Project 365. I'll be taking one self-portrait EVERY day for an entire year. It will be a challenge, but a great way to get myself using my camera more and expanding my creativity. I posted a link to the 365 gallery at the top of my blog. Check it out!

innocence

With all the insanely frigid temperatures we've had lately, I've been spending less time behind my camera, and more time in front of my computer (and under an electric blanket!). So I decided to post a little re-cap of some of the adorable kids I photographed in the past few months. The faces should look familiar, but the photos have never been posted yet - enjoy!

And in attempt to start shooting more photos - I'm starting a little "project" tomorrow. Some of you may be familiar with it - some may think it's a crazy concept. But I'll share more on that this weekend. =)

For now - stay warm all you Wisconsin-ites (and Minnesotans)!!!

more bitty-baby goodness

In just the few weeks since baby Evan came into this world, he is already making his third appearance on my blog! Just before Christmas, Dawn came over for a visit, and we couldn't help but take some photos of him in his ADORABLE little new hat and sweater!

As you can see - I've been having a little fun with Photoshop and post-processing! Somebody stop me when I go TOO far!

I even caught a smile mid-sleep! *swoon*

BABY TOES!! Don't ya just want to nibble on them!?

I'm sure we'll be seeing much more of this little cutie in 2009!

You may have also noticed I changed the look of my blog again! With the new year I thought it needed a fresh new look. And this way, I can post my photos much larger than in the old version - yay!
